Driving along a dark road with friends, you talk about the haunted houses you’ve visited. You’re certain you can’t be scared; you’re seasoned. Still, you’re in search of that adrenaline-rushing, heart-pounding, pulse-racing adventure, and so are your friends. You haven’t been to a haunted attraction as remote as Haunted Montrose, but you’re sure it’s going to be a treat.

As you enter the parking area, you’re intrigued. An old house, a family cemetery, a dark cornfield. You don’t know it yet, but fear lives here. You step out of the car. You can almost smell it - fear. Your mind starts to wander. You feel a bit anxious; very soon, you will experience true fear. It’s supposed to be a haunted attraction but what if it’s real?

atlYou can’t take your eyes off the eclectic collection on the Slaughter’s front porch … goat skins, nooses, a wide array of tools and implements of destruction. A quick rush of adrenaline upon spotting a machete causes the hair on the back of your neck to rise briefly and retreat. As you cross the original tombstone-shaped sidewalk to the steps and climb onto the porch, you wonder about the strange family who lived here. With a closer look at the Slaughter’s collection on the porch you ask yourself, “What if this is real? What if it really is haunted?” and your sense of security begins to fade.

As you enter the foyer, your confidence is back. But on second glance, something doesn’t feel right. Who were the Slaughters and are they still here?

Dark. Really dark. Dark and spooky. What was that? A slight chill. A shiver. Goose bumps. Each step is a new and frightening experience – every fiber in your being is on alert – your nerves tingle in anticipation. Finally, you’ve found what you’ve searched for – a real scare, a real fright. It’s here. That pulse-racing, heart-pounding feeling that adrenaline-junkies crave. This is most definitely not the typical “boo” haunt. Haunted Montrose is on a completely different level. It’s dark and twisted and will mess with your mind.

skullWhat was wrong with these people? How could this happen? Who imagined this? You’re thankful you weren’t a victim; or could you be next? Turn the corner. It’s worse and even more frightening. You’ve got to get out of here, even if you have to crawl. Your mouth is dry. Your limbs are numb. Air. You need air. You’re going to be sick. Pulse-racing, heart-pounding, sick.

You exit the house gasping. Air. Cool, dark, night air. And a surprise! You’ve never been in a situation like this before. You’re trembling – you don’t know what to expect next – and then, there it is. Something unimaginable. At least something you would have never imagined – and the fear is real. In one word: petrified. You stand there petrified. You may have survived being the next victim in The Old Slaughter House, but now, you’re not so sure. Your breath is drawing short. You squeeze someone’s hand, and then you step inside.
